Babylonian astronomers systematize the sky

Late Babylonian scribes kept centuries of systematic records of celestial positions and developed mathematical schemes to predict lunar and planetary phenomena.

Why it matters

This was quantitative, predictive science centuries before Greece: tables, interpolation, and the zodiac itself. Their data and methods flowed into Hellenistic and eventually Islamic astronomy.
