Bacon programs the scientific project

Francis Bacon's Novum Organum proposed knowledge as a collective, cumulative enterprise: observation, experiment, tables of instances, organized institutions.

Why it matters

Bacon wrote the method down as a protocol — replicable, incremental, institutional. The Royal Society, and every research lab since, runs on his specification. Science as infrastructure, not as genius.
