ARPANET sends its first packets
The first node at UCLA attempted to log in to a machine at SRI; the system crashed after 'LO' — but packet switching worked, and the network grew.
Why it matters
Distributed, fault-tolerant, protocol-first networking became the internet's architecture. Design principles from 1969 — end-to-end, best-effort, layered — still run every packet you send.
